About this site

I'm Eric Pratt, a classical guitarist, teacher and programmer. The Algorithmic Fretboard is where I share projects and ideas at the intersection of classical guitar and computing. My aim is to help advance the field of guitar—not only through playing and teaching, but by building tools and exploring possibilities.

Much of my current work is aimed at exploring the implementation of artificial intelligence (mostly large language models) to power my guitar teaching and assist in running my business. Along the way, I’m investigating AI memory, context, and how to build systems that preserve useful information across an ongoing teaching relationship.

This blog follows both the practical work and the technical questions it opens up. Some posts will be about guitar; others will get into software, system design, or experiments whose usefulness is still uncertain. Technical exploration matters to me in its own right, not just as a shortcut to a finished product.

I’ll share what I’m making, what I’m discovering, and what needs rethinking.
